Thurlow 'Tad' Weed was an American football placekicker who played for the Ohio State Buckeyes, contributing to their national championship title in 1954. He successfully completed 24 of 26 extra point attempts and one field goal during a perfect season. Weed briefly played in the NFL for the Pittsburgh Steelers before his career ended when they drafted a new kicker. In the 1970s, he invented the WEED tennis racquet, notable for its large hitting area. Later in life, he faced health challenges before passing away in 2006.
