Tā Ichiun was born Kōno Kenzan in June 1910 in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture. He served as the 73rd head priest of the Jōdo Shinshū sect and the 56th abbot of Seijōkō-ji Temple in Fujisawa. Ichiun was also an esteemed professor at Shimane University, specializing in the history of Japanese thought. He significantly contributed to Buddhist leadership and education until his passing on August 26, 2004.
