Sven Nygård, born on August 25, 1931, in Pietarsaari, is a Finnish jazz saxophonist known for his work as an arranger and composer in big band music. He began playing the accordion in his youth before switching to saxophone and joining Kaj Heidenberg's trio in 1948. Nygård founded a big band in Pietarsaari in 1955, later studying composition at the Sibelius Academy. He has participated in over 6,000 recorded pieces and received several awards for his contributions to jazz.
