Su Bong was a prominent Soen Sa Nim in the Kwan Um School of Zen, recognized as the designated heir of Seung Sahn's lineage. Born on January 7, 1943, in Kona, Hawaii, he began his Zen practice in 1974. Throughout his career, he played a crucial role in establishing various Zen groups and temples. He received inka in 1981 and was ordained in 1983, taking the name Mu Deung. His Dharma transmission occurred in 1992. He passed away on July 17, 1994, during a retreat, with a center named after him now operational in Hong Kong.
