Stuart Stephen Papworth Parkin, born on December 9, 1955, is a prominent experimental physicist and IBM Fellow. He leads the Magnetic Electronics group at IBM's Almaden Research Center in San Jose, California. Additionally, he is an advisory professor in the Applied Physics Department at Stanford University and director of the IBM-Stanford Spintronic Science and Applications Center established in 2004. Parkin is a pioneer in spintronic science and has made significant discoveries in the behavior of magnetic thin film structures, contributing to advancements in data density and hard disk drive capacity. He received the Millennium Technology Prize in 2014.
