Stig Joar Steen is a Norwegian thoracic surgeon born on February 7, 1948, in Tynset. He graduated as a physician from the University of Bergen in 1974 and completed his surgical specialty training in Köping-Västerås in 1980. Steen defended his doctoral thesis on Human Vascular a-Adrenoceptors in 1984. He worked at the University of Pittsburgh, renowned for its first liver transplant, and later held various academic positions in Lund, Sweden, becoming a professor of thoracic surgery in 1998. His recent research focuses on transplant surgery and developing new techniques for heart and lung transplants.
