Steve Biko (December 18, 1946 – September 12, 1977) was a South African activist and intellectual. He was a key figure in the Black Consciousness Movement, which fought against apartheid. A year after his untimely death in police custody, his writings were compiled and published as 'I Write What I Like.' The film 'Cry Freedom' portrays his life and contributions.
