Stephen Hugh Salter (1938-2024) was a prominent South African-born Scottish academic and Emeritus Professor of Engineering Design at the University of Edinburgh. He invented Salter's duck, a wave energy device, and was a proponent of geoengineering, promoting cloud reflectivity enhancement. He created the world's first multi-directional wave tank and contributed to digital-displacement pump-motors. Salter was also influential in marine cloud brightening and worked with Aquamarine Power on the Oyster wave energy converter. His innovative contributions to wave energy and engineering made significant impacts in the field prior to his passing.
