Stefan Hell, born on December 23, 1962, is a German physicist born in Romania. He is one of the directors at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry in Göttingen, Germany. In 2014, he received the Kavli Prize in Nanoscience for transformative contributions in the field of nano optics that challenged the established limits of optical microscopy resolution. Along with Eric Betzig and William E. Moerner, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2014 for the development of super-resolved fluorescence microscopy.
