Stanley Peat was a British chemist, born on August 23, 1902, in South Shields. He made significant contributions to carbohydrate chemistry, including clarifying the structure of amylopectin and glucosamine. After studying at Armstrong College, he became a lecturer at the University of Birmingham and later a professor at the University College of North Wales. Peat was known for his research on enzyme systems responsible for starch metabolism and co-authored works on glucose and related compounds. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1948 and contributed to Advances in Carbohydrate Chemistry.
