Following the war, he commanded various units, including the Warwickshire Yeomanry, and later took on roles in the Middle East and Malaya. Cotter was involved in restoring Castle Widenham in Ireland, where he lived until his passing, and was succeeded by his nephew as the 7th Baronet.
