Simon Žao (Zhao Ximen) was a Chinese Christian Protestant leader, writer, and missionary, born on June 1, 1918, and died on December 7, 2001. He converted to Christianity in 1944 and became a prominent figure in the Back to Jerusalem movement. In 1950, he and his pregnant wife were imprisoned by communists, leading to a tragic series of events including her miscarriage and eventual death in 1959. After enduring over three decades in captivity, Žao was released from prison in 1981.
