He served as the Minister for Environment, Forests, Science and Technology in the Andhra Pradesh cabinet and was previously the Minister for Transport, Roads & Buildings. He hails from Chimakurthy in Prakasam district, Andhra Pradesh, and completed his commerce graduation from Andhra University in 1977. After losing the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections from Ongole as a TDP candidate, he joined the YSR Congress Party in June 2020.
