Shūnin Kagao (1901-1977) was a noted Shingon Buddhist monk active during the Showa period. He is recognized as 'the Father of Montenlupa' for his role as a chaplain at the New Bilibid Prison in the Philippines, where he advocated for the clemency of Japanese war criminals. He composed the song 'Ah, Montenlupa no Yoru wa Fukete' which gained popularity and contributed to the release of Japanese war criminals in the early 1950s. He later delivered talks on peace and received an honor for his contributions to Japan-Philippines friendship.
