Shōichi Sugita (1924 – April 15, 1945) was a Japanese fighter pilot and ace during World War II. He confirmed 70 aerial victories and shared another 40. As a chief petty officer, he protected Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto's aircraft with a Mitsubishi A6M Zero and was involved in the shoot-down of a P-38 during the Bougainville operation. Sugita later joined the 343rd Kokutai as summoned by Captain Minoru Genda, where he served in Japan's homeland air defense. His bravery led to his demise when his N1K George fighter was shot down in 1945.
