Shōichi Kawai (November 16, 1920 – November 8, 1986) was a Japanese architect and architectural scholar. He served as a professor at Yokohama National University and Showa University, focusing his research on architectural design theory. His grandfather was architect Kōzō Kawai, and his father was poet and professor Mokutarō Kinoshita (real name: Masao Ōta). His uncle was Enzo Ōta, who was the head of the Civil Engineering Department at the Imperial Capital Reconstruction Bureau.
