Shinzaburō Ōishi was a Japanese historian, born on September 6, 1923, and passed away on May 10, 2004. His specialization was in early modern Japanese history, and he was a professor emeritus at Gakushuin University. He began his research focusing on early modern rural history and later dedicated his life’s work to the study of the Kyōhō reforms. Additionally, he contributed significantly as a historical advisor for numerous NHK Taiga dramas set during the Edo period.
