Shinpei Katō was a prominent Japanese legal scholar known for his contributions to legal theory and philosophy. Born on March 29, 1912, he served as an emeritus professor at Kyoto University and became a member of the Japan Academy in 1983. Katō was also the president of the Japan Society for Legal Philosophy from 1971 to 1975 and was honored as the first honorary citizen of Sawauchi Village. He passed away on April 2, 1999.
