Shin'ei Kyan (July 25, 1912 - July 16, 1997) was a renowned Japanese educator, activist, politician, and martial artist from Okinawa. He played a key role in the movement for the reversion of Okinawa to Japan under U.S. military rule and served five terms as a senator after reversion. A significant figure in the Okinawa reform movement, he contributed substantially to Matsubayashi-ryu karate and was recognized for his mastery of the sai, a traditional Okinawan weapon. He also worked to promote and preserve Okinawan cultural heritage.
