Shigehiko Tōgō, born on January 10, 1945, is a former journalist who worked for the Asahi Shimbun and The Washington Post. Currently, he serves as a joint researcher at Kokugakuin University's Research and Development Promotion Institute. He holds a PhD in Shinto studies. Tōgō was born in a villa in Karuizawa, Nagano Prefecture, during evacuation. His grandfather, Shigenobu Tōgō, served as Japan's Foreign Minister during the start and end of World War II, and his father, Bunko Tōgō, was a former Deputy Foreign Minister and Ambassador to the United States.
