Shepherd Malusi Mayatula, born on October 10, 1945, is a retired South African politician and economist. He served in the National Assembly as a member of the African National Congress from 1999 to 2009 and 2011 to 2014, chairing the Portfolio Committee on Education. Previously, he was the inaugural MEC for Finance and then MEC for Education in the Eastern Cape. An economics professor at the University of Fort Hare, Mayatula began his political career in the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature from 1994 to 1999.
