Sheila Catherine Kirkwood, born January 23, 1953, is a British-Swedish geophysicist. She earned a B.Sc. and a Ph.D. in geophysics from Edinburgh University, focusing on seismology. In 1990, she obtained a Ph.D. in space physics from Umeå University, later becoming an associate professor there in 1991. Since 1998, she has served as a professor of atmospheric physics at the Institute of Space Physics in Kiruna. Her research examines how atmospheric movements and electromagnetic radiation affect the temperature and chemical composition of the stratosphere and mesosphere.
