Shawqi Baghdadi was a Syrian poet and short story writer, born on July 26, 1928, in Baniyas. He grew up in Baniyas, Tripoli, and Latakia. He completed his higher education at the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Education in Damascus in 1951. He co-founded the Syrian Writers' Association in 1951, which later became the Arab Writers' Association in 1954, serving as its Secretary General until 1959. Baghdadi dedicated himself to writing afterward, producing numerous poetry collections and short stories, and he also focused on children's literature.
