Sharon Kay Herbaugh (1954-1993) was an American journalist known for her role as a war correspondent for the Associated Press. She served as the bureau chief in Islamabad, Pakistan, and was tragically killed in a helicopter crash while on assignment. The incident occurred near Pul-e Khomri, north of Kabul, due to engine failure, making her the first female bureau chief of the AP to die while on duty. Herbaugh remained the only female AP journalist to be killed in the line of duty until the death of Anja Niedringhaus in 2014.
