Shakhbut bin Sultan Al Nahyan (1905 - February 11, 1989) was the twelfth ruler of Abu Dhabi from 1928 to 1966. As the eldest son of Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, he led the emirate during a time when it was part of the Trucial States, relying on fishing, pearl trading, and agriculture. His reign saw the beginning of Abu Dhabi's industrial revolution, marked by the first oil export in 1962, which transformed the economic landscape and called for new governance under Sheikh Zayed, his brother, who succeeded him in 1966.
