He was the head of the engineering training for the first group of Soviet cosmonauts and attained the rank of Major General of Aviation. Born on April 9, 1920, in Livny, Oryol province, he played a significant role in the development of Soviet space programs before passing away on August 18, 2000, in Moscow.
