Seiichi Niikuni was a Japanese poet and painter born on December 7, 1925. He significantly contributed to the international avant-garde concrete poetry movement, known for his calligraphic, visual, and aural poetry. His works have earned him recognition as one of the most important contemporary poets in Japanese and German literature. In his later years, he showed a preference for the older kanji orthography form of his name, 新國誠一. Niikuni passed away on August 23, 1977.
