Dr. Scott S. Sheppard is an astronomer at the Department of Terrestrial Magnetism at the Carnegie Institution for Science. He received his Ph.D. in astronomy from the University of Hawaii in 2004 under David C. Jewitt. Sheppard is known for his research on the moons of the outer planets in the solar system, participating in the discovery of numerous small, faint moons of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. He was also involved in the discovery of the second known trojan asteroid in Neptune's orbit, 2004 UP10.
