He has consistently ranked among the top 40 players in the world since July 2018 and is the highest-ranked Indian player according to ITTF. Sathiyan was part of the Indian team that won bronze at the 2011 Junior World Championships and also at the Asian Games in 2018, marking India's first medal in table tennis. He has won professional titles, including the Belgium Open in 2016.
