His work primarily focused on the activities of people in the township environment. Notable among his pieces is 'The Drumming, Johannesburg-Soweto Line, from Train Church, 1986'. Despite initial struggles in South Africa, he gained recognition after exhibiting in France, Switzerland, Belgium, and the USA. Mofokeng faced mental health challenges throughout his life, ultimately passing away from progressive supranuclear palsy in January 2020.
