Sam Hynd is a retired British para-swimmer born on 3 July 1991, competing in the S8 classification due to club feet and mild muscular dystrophy. He notably won gold medals in the 400m Freestyle at the 2008 Summer Paralympics and various European and World Championships. His younger brother, Oliver Hynd, was a strong competitor as well, finishing second in the 2011 European Championships. Sam retired from competitive swimming at the age of 22 in February 2014.
