Salwa al-Jassar is a Kuwaiti politician and former member of the National Assembly. Elected in 2009, she was one of four women in the assembly and is the head of the Women's Empowerment Center. Al-Jassar holds a bachelor's degree in geography and economics from Kuwait University, a master's from the University of Michigan, and a Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh. She has worked as a professor at Kuwait University and authored a report on women in Kuwaiti politics for the United Nations Development Programme.
