Saihachirō Ono was a Japanese novelist born on March 7, 1920. He was a disciple of the famous writer Osamu Dazai and was born in Kanagi, Aomori Prefecture. After studying at Aomori Normal School, he worked at public elementary schools in Aomori and later in Tokyo. He began his literary career mainly through 'Democratic Literature' in the 1970s and extensively researched the lives of itako (spiritual mediums). Ono often read Dazai's works in remembrance on Dazai's death anniversary. His notable works include 'Itako Mumyō'.
