He is recognized as a holder of an Important Intangible Cultural Asset, also referred to as a Living National Treasure. Takahashi, whose given name was Kanichi, was known for his exceptional craftsmanship in sword making. He had a brother, Yoshimune Takahashi, who was also a prominent swordsmith but died young. Takahashi's contributions to the art of sword-making have left a lasting legacy in Japanese culture.
