S. M. Ikram, born on September 10, 1908, was a notable Pakistani historian, biographer, and littérateur. Joining the Indian Civil Service in 1931, he opted for Pakistan after its creation in 1947, continuing his service in the newly formed state. He became the director of the Institute of Islamic Culture in Lahore in 1966 and held this position until his death in 1973. Ikram contributed significantly to historical literature and the study of Islamic culture.
