Ruth H. Alexander was an American activist dedicated to advancing women's participation in collegiate sports. She founded the 'Lady Gator Athletic' program at the University of Florida, advocating for female athletes' opportunities in intercollegiate athletics. After earning her master's and doctorate, she became a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences. Appointed by President Nixon to the President's Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition, she also established the Florida Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. Her impact was recognized with multiple hall of fame inductions.
