Russell Newton Stokes was an Australian politician and businessman, born in Ivanhoe on 26 August 1903. He became the managing director and chairman of Stokes & Sons, a family manufacturing company, from 1932 until 1974. Stokes was a foundation member of the Liberal Party in 1944, and served as a member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly for Evelyn from 1958 until his retirement in 1973. He was also a property owner and involved in agriculture. He passed away on 6 July 1974 and is buried at Warringal Cemetery in Heidelberg.
