He studied agricultural engineering at Weihenstephan and animal sciences at Kiel University, where he also obtained his doctorate. Preisinger has been involved in genetics since 1993 and has held various academic positions. He faced legal consequences for animal abuse in 2011 due to painful procedures performed on chickens. He is a member of a governmental initiative for improving animal welfare.
