Ronald S. Stroud (1933-2021) was a Canadian ancient historian and epigraphist. He obtained his B.A. from the University of Toronto in 1957 and earned his PhD from the University of California, Berkeley in 1965. Stroud began teaching at Berkeley, becoming Associate Professor in 1969, Professor in 1972, and Klio Distinguished Professor of Classical Studies in 2001, from which he retired in 2007. He received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1977 and was a co-editor of the Supplementum Epigraphicum Graecum starting in 1979. He was a member of the German Archaeological Institute and the American Philosophical Society from 2005.
