He built a significant civil practice as a QC and became one of the UK's most experienced terrorism trial lawyers. As senior counsel, he led numerous major murder and terrorism cases. Martin Dillon recognized him as "one of the outstanding lawyers of his generation" in his book about the Shankill Butchers trial.
