Ronald D. Southern was a prominent Canadian entrepreneur and equestrian. He co-founded the ATCO Group in 1947 and served as the Chairman of the Board until 2012. Southern also started AKITA Drilling Ltd and was its major shareholder. He established the world-renowned Spruce Meadows equestrian facility with his wife, Margaret, and was inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame in 2006. In 2015, Forbes estimated his net worth at 1.55 million Canadian dollars. Southern's legacy includes his two daughters who are accomplished show jumpers.
