His passion for comics led him to co-found the International Comics Fair in Bordighera and Lucca Comics & Games, both of which are prestigious events in the comic industry. Calisi's work helped shape the cultural understanding and appreciation of comics in Italy before his untimely death on May 20, 1975, in Mwanza.
