Rodrigo Mercado Pelufo, known as 'Cadena' or 'el Verdugo de Macayepo', was a Colombian paramilitary leader born in September 1965 in Macayepo. He was the second-in-command of the Bloque Héroes de los Montes de María under Diego Vecino. Mercado Pelufo was implicated in numerous massacres and targeted killings in Sucre, where over 3,000 people reportedly disappeared due to his gang's actions. He held significant political influence in the region, with connections to various political figures who benefited from his establishment.
