Roderic Guigó i Serra is a Catalan bioinformatician who obtained his PhD in 1988 from the University of Barcelona, focusing on computational models in population genetics and evolutionary ecology. He later moved to the United States, where he worked on gene prediction and genome structure. Guigó returned to Catalonia in 1994 and became the coordinator of the Bioinformatics and Genomics Department at the CRG in 2005. He has been involved in projects like ENCODE and has participated in political campaigns concerning Eurovegas and Catalonian independence. In December 2017, he won the National Research Award.
