Roberto Amaral (born December 24, 1939) is a Brazilian journalist, professor, and politician. He served as Minister of Science and Technology during President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's administration, where he stirred controversy by advocating for Brazil to develop nuclear technology in a BBC Brasil interview. Amaral was the president of the Brazilian Socialist Party (PSB) until October 2014 when he resigned over the party's support for Aécio Neves, a candidate from the Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB). He left the PSB in 2016 due to disagreements with the party's direction.
