Robert George Tills was a United States Navy officer and pilot born on March 9, 1918. He was the first American naval officer killed during the Battle of the Philippines in World War II. His body was lost at sea during the battle but was recovered in November 2007 and identified in December 2008. Tills was buried with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery on March 23, 2009, and a ship was named in his honor, recognizing his service and sacrifice.
