Robert Swan is an English polar explorer born on July 28, 1956, in Durham. He studied ancient history at St Chad's College from 1976 to 1979. In November 1984, he embarked on a remarkable journey to Antarctica, traveling 14,842 nautical miles. After wintering at a base, he successfully completed a 1,400 kilometers trek to the South Pole on January 11, 1986. He became the first person to reach both the South and North Poles on foot, achieving the latter on May 14, 1989. Additionally, Swan advocates for renewable energy and is a co-author of the book Antarctica 2041.
