Sir Robert Basil Reid (1921–1993) was the chairman of the British Railways Board from 1983 to 1990. The son of a prominent governor, he served in World War II and later joined LNER as a Traffic Apprentice. Reid climbed the ranks within British Railways, eventually becoming Chief Executive in 1980 before his chairmanship. His career included significant roles in marketing and general management in various regions. He was also a Freeman of the City of London and served as Master of the Information Technologists' Company from 1988 to 1989.
