In 1959, he identified the conodont genera †Ctenognathodus and †Prionognathodus. Three years later, in 1962, he described the extinct echinoderm class †Edrioblastoidea. Fay's contributions significantly advanced the understanding of these ancient organisms. He was born on March 4, 1927, in St. Louis and passed away on November 1, 2015, in Norman.
