Robert Phelan Langlands, born on October 6, 1936, is a Canadian-American mathematician known for founding the Langlands program, which comprises a vast network of conjectures and results linking representation theory and number theory. He received the Abel Prize in 2018 for his contributions to this program, which seeks to connect these two areas of mathematics. Langlands is an emeritus professor and holds the Albert Einstein chair at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton.
